Experience and Good Comments
During my mortgage shopping, I compared rates & services across the most popular sources and worked with multiple brokers & bank’s loan officers, and in the end I chose to go with Said Sajady from Bank of America. I’m glad that I made the switch just when I was about to sign the loan documents with First Tech. Why?
1) Lowest rates: Said was willing to fight for my case to get lowest rates possible in comparison to others. My First Tech’s experience was actually the worst… the First Tech in the Commons wouldn’t even put up any changes to the rates even though my credit score was very darn high.
2) Superb customer service: people prefer to work with mortgage brokers because they see things end to end and leave you trouble free. Brokers are also usually more pro-active and managing things for you during the entire mortgage application. I find the same qualities in Said even though he worked at big bank. He followed through my case from beginning to end and I can call him any time to get things done or inquire status. Unlike First Tech, I cannot even reach the loan officer any time that I want, and even more difficult during the weekend. Said also sets expectations very clearly throughout the loan process, such as how much time to expect to get a response from underwriter, how much time to expect to get back from appraisal, etc., and worked out a timeline that everyone can keep on track like a project manager.
3) Star team: buying a house is a teamwork, and I initially had a lot of doubts about Bank of America because of its bad reviews. However, Said assured me of the changes & improvements BoA made internally such as BoA consolidating its house underwriting department, he having his own designated underwrite, and his loan coordinators & specialist are also super responsive & pro-active.
My house mortgage was able to close on time and the entire process went smoothly without issues thanks to Said, and therefore I’ll highly recommend him to others if you need to apply for mortgage or refinance.
He also received great reviews on Redfin: https://www.redfin.com/openbook/home-loans/seattle-said-sajady-sp340948
Finally, here is the list of mortgage sources I went through for your reference:
- First Tech
- Bank of America
- Reliance Mortgage
- OnQ Financials
You'll need to prepare a lot of documents and work with different members of the team. You have to understand the different roles they play during a mortgage process. Said will happily explain to you, but namely:
- Loan officer: sales person, project manager
- Loan coordinator: document collector
- Loan specialist: document collector & evaluator, works with underwriter
- Underwriter: you shouldn't need to directly interact with underwriter. this person approves/rejects your loan.
- Closing agent: you shouldn't need to directly interact with this person. this person works with your escrow for closing details.
