Scheduled same-day on-site evaluation on Sunday. They wouldn't give estimation beforehand for my clogged kitchen sink.
A guy showed with impatient face, took a glance then started to ask for 430+tax for "basic service without liquid solution after unclogging". After negotiation he said 430+tax-30, (which is also weird, why do I pay tax for the discounted part? I suspect they play trick with tax too). We said it's too expensive, then he left immediately with one words "that's the best we can do. Goodbye." then SLAMMED my front door!
2 minutes later he knocked my door and said he called his boss with new offer 350+tax (who would believe that BS? I bet it's the standard trick they are playing all the time). We said no again, and he left with single word "Goodbye" and disappeared in no time.
1 day later, I got good service from Bob Oats with promised-phone-quote 250+tax. Not sure if it's a good deal, but much better than Roto-Rooter, regarding both price and attitude.
Clogged sink already means a bad day. Don't let them make it worse.
Overpriced and Rude!

plumb the kitchen sink
Experience and Good Comments
Our kitchen sink problem started months ago. Every time when the dishwasher drained, the dirty water came up from the disposer. Eventually, both the dishwasher and the kitchen drain are clogged. I try draino, but it didn't work at all because the clog was not at the U-shape pipe under the kitchen sink. I bought a 25 feet snake and tried to unclog the drain. It worked after I ran the snake, but became clogged the second day.
I called several plumber on a Friday, and only Rotter Rooter can come on the same day. I didn't want the kitchen drain clogged for the weekend, so I decided to use them even thought I knew from other reviews that they were very expensive.
The plumber came in the afternoon. What he did was mostly the same as what I had done, although his snake was twice as long as mine. The only thing different was that he went out of my house to check if the snake went up to the roof. He explained that there is no way to control the snake. Sometimes the snake went up the pipe to the roof, then he had to run the snake again. I didn't check that when I ran the snake. So it is possible that my snake went to a wrong direction.
He taught us how to avoid future clog as he worked and clean up the area before he left.
The original price was $409 before tax with a bottle of bio drain cleaner. I tried to bargain. Then he offered an option for $359 without the bottle.

unclog kitchen sink
Experience and Good Comments
It's probably very common to have clogged sink issue. As suggested I rent a electronic snake (25ft) from Home Depot and tried myself. Unfortunately it didn't go through. Or maybe it's not long enough. I pulled most of it until it stuck there and I couldn't move forward nor spin it as it's cut off automatically (seems like not powerful enough). Then I tried to press water in by garden hose and failed too. Finally I tried to pour a bottle of Drano in with hot water later. And it didn't work :( Since the pipe is full of poison chemical I won't touch it any more.
So I have to find a plumber. I got a recommended by a neighbor and read the review here. It seems a big company and the work is professional under insured. Besides the estimation is free. I also called another and the quote was about 250. But anyway I chose Roto Rooter to come. A guy named Sam showed up in one Hour (very fast). He told me what he's going to do and the cost is 495+tax including treatment and 6 months warranty. I bargain with him and made it to 330+tax and he left the whole box of treatment for later use.
He got the snaking job done very well and gave me some lessons. Like the garbage disposer should be very very lightly used; regularly (monthly) use treatment (not Drano) to dissolve grease and other stuff in the pipe. He showed me to make a few inches of hot water in the tank and pour in the treatments (from his company) to make a lot of foam, then remove the stopper to get the foam into pipe and stay there over night.
After the job, when he clean up the pipes and found small leaking problem. It took him long time to tighten it up. He said a few parts should be replaced but that should be done by myself easily later.
Next time I would directly rent a 50ft powerful snake and unclog it myself. And I believe the commercial treatment is not necessary. Dish soap or degreaser that can form foam should be working just well.

clear a kitchen sink drain
Experience and Good Comments
My kitchen sink got clogged. I tried plunger and snake but both didn't work. I also took p trap off and there was no problem there. without solving this problem we couldn't cook also I caused a leak on the p trap due to the incorrect pipe by the previous plumber. So I had to hire a pro. I made 4-5 calls. Roto-Rooter could come with 4hr timeframe but they didn't provide quote over phone. They came within 2.5hrs after I called and gave me a quote I would not consider at all ($359+tax for cleaning, $419 for cleaning&treatment). Then the technician gave me a discount. Although it was still high I accepted the new price because another plumber which quoted as $195 could only come next morning and cooking was important to me.
Then he got his equipment (electric plumbing snake) and other stuff in. He put a pipe which had a hole so he could put snake into it. He tried it a few times and also adjusted the snake head so it could go deeper but it still didn't work. so he opened the spare drain pipe opening and did snaking again. Finally it worked. He also put some enzyme in sink and flushed it with warm water. Then he fixed the leak by putting a new pipe which connected garbage disposal and P trap.
He spent 1 hr there and I could see he was very experienced and confident on what he was doing.
I paid it with my AMEX credit card.
without the discount it is is way too expensive
